On Thursday, November 1 at 5 p.m., teens and adults are invited to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos at the Winfield Branch Library. Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have died. Participants will learn more about the holiday by exploring our alter, decorating sugar skulls, face painting, and tasting authentic food.
Join us for this free program, to register call 662-4039 or sign up online.
Read more about the program held last year, by an attendee, Emily Lecke:
“The staff made this a wonderful event, from the presentation to the great spread of authentic foods and making crafts! I really loved decorating the sugar skulls and the opportunity to dress up and paint my face. This event was probably one of my overall favorite library programs as it taught me about a very special tradition. I don’t have the same fears I once had of spirits. I am planning to make an altar to honor my grandparents, whom I’ve never met – it makes me happy to make an altar and show my love for them with treats and a meaningful display.”
The Library is hosting a free concert by amazing performer and award-winning composer, Gladius, on Thursday, November 1 at 6 p.m.
Since overcoming neuropathy in both of his wrists and elbows, Gladius has developed a reputation for relentlessly touring and impressing audiences. Inspired by Spanish guitar legends and famous composers, Gladius combines various musical genres with the Spanish spirit and will transcend audiences with his incredible guitar skills, both on the classical and electric guitar.
This is a musical performance that you will not want to miss! This program is free and registration is not required.

The Library’s storytime programs help to prepare children for kindergarten transition. We offer four storytime programs for children ranging from birth to age five that involve a variety of activities including books, songs, rhymes, music, movement and more. As we continue to enhance our early literacy programming at both library locations we would like to know your thoughts as well. If you currently attend a library storytime program or plan to in the future, please take a moment to fill out this short survey. Thank you.
