September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Crown Point Community Library is inviting community members of all ages to get creative and help design a future library card.
Whether you love to draw, paint, sketch, or create colorful designs, this is your chance to leave your mark on the library. One winning design will be selected and transformed into a limited-edition Crown Point Library card that patrons can carry throughout the community.
The Library Card Design Contest is open to participants from Kindergarten through adults. We encourage artists of all skill levels to participate and share their creativity.
Your design could celebrate books, reading, imagination, learning, community, or anything that makes the library special to you. We want to see what inspires you!
The winning design will become part of the Crown Point Community Library’s collection of library cards, giving the artist a chance to create something that will be enjoyed by library patrons for years to come.

Four New Library Card Designs Are Coming
We’re getting ready to introduce four new Crown Point Library card designs! Whether you are signing up for your first library card or already have one in your wallet, there will soon be even more ways to show your library pride.
But that’s not all—your design could be next!
Design a Future Library Card
The Crown Point Community Library is inviting community members of all ages to participate in the Library Card Design Contest. Participants from Kindergarten through adulthood are encouraged to submit their original designs for a chance to have their artwork featured on a future limited-edition library card.
One winning design will be selected and transformed into a new Crown Point Library card design.

This is a chance to leave your mark on the library and create a design that library patrons will carry throughout the community.

Throughout September, library cardholders can also enter for a chance to win a Kid’s Edition Kindle Fire or a regular Kindle Fire.
Every cardholder who checks out materials during the month will receive one drawing ticket per visit. Each cardholder may receive one ticket per visit.
Using the self-checkout station? Show your receipt at the Circulation Desk to receive your ticket.
The winner will be drawn on October 2.

The Crown Point Community Library is heartbroken by the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy, Dolly Parton.
Through her award-winning Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, Dolly helped put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America. She considered the program one of her greatest achievements, and her commitment to helping children develop a love of reading will be part of her legacy for generations to come.
The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program serving the Crown Point Community Library District was created in 2014 by the Crown Point Rotary Club. Through the Crown Point Rotary Club’s fundraising efforts, the program has sent out an incredible 58,570 books since it began. Currently, 859 children are registered for the program, while 1,325 children have graduated after receiving books until their fifth birthday.
Despite Dolly Parton’s passing, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will continue as part of the Dollywood Foundation, ensuring that her extraordinary legacy of literacy continues to reach children and families for generations to come.
We are deeply grateful to the Crown Point Rotary Club, our local funding partner, for their continued commitment to bringing Dolly’s vision to children throughout our library district.
If you would like to help support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in our community, donations can be made to the Crown Point Rotary Club fund at the Crown Point Community Foundation.
Your support helps ensure that children in our community can continue receiving the gift of books and discovering the joy of reading.

The Friends of the Crown Point Library’s mission is to enhance and promote the use and enjoyment of the library. They raise funds to support library programs and services, as well as to help fund items not generally covered in the library’s regular operating budget.
Become a member:
Membership is open to all individuals and families who want involvement in the library. Members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and to actively participate in book sales, other events, and projects. The membership year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. All dues are paid annually.
The membership dues are as follows:
Life – $150;
Family – $15;
Individual – $10

What we do:
As a Friend, you will play a critical role in your library’s and community’s success.
ADVOCATE – Friends are a voice for the Library on relevant, local, state, and national issues.
ENGAGE – Friends spread the word within the community, stimulating greater awareness of the Library and its resources.
SUPPORT – Friends volunteer at fundraising events and library events as needed.
FUNDRAISE – Friends fundraising activities, such as Bunco for Books, literary luncheons, bus trips,and book sales generate revenue to fund items not generally covered in the Library’s budget, and to sponsor programs such as the summer and winter reading events, author talks, concerts, library book discussion groups, Book Baby Bags, and a variety of literacy outreach services.
Meetings:
Curious to see what the Friends of the Library are doing? Attend a meeting! Meetings are held quarterly on the second Tuesday of the month, alternating times at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the meeting rooms at the Crown Point location.
2025 Meeting Dates:
February 11 at 10 a.m., May 13 at 6 p.m., September 9 at 6 p.m., December 9 at 10 a.m.
Residents of Center Township and Winfield Township are eligible for a free Crown Point Community Library card.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Adults (18 and older):
Bring a valid photo ID and proof of your current address.
Photo ID options: State-issued ID with current address, Passport, Military ID, Official School ID, or Matricula Consular
Proof of address: Rental agreement, utility bill, or checkbook showing your local address
Minors (17 and younger):
A parent or guardian must sign the application.
TEACHER CARDS
Teachers working in schools within the Crown Point Community Library service area apply for a Teacher Library Card. Please provide proof of current employment, such as a recent pay stub or an official school ID.
RECIPROCAL BORROWERS
The Crown Point Community Library card is honored at all Indiana libraries that participate in reciprocal borrowing, including many in Northwest Indiana.
You must be in good standing with our library before other libraries will issue you a reciprocal card.
Residents of the Lake County Public Library District can obtain a CPCL card with proper identification.
Patrons from other library districts may receive a CPCL card after completing an application and confirming their home library account is in good standing.
Note: Reciprocal borrowers have the same borrowing privileges as CPCL patrons, except for access to eBooks and downloadable audiobooks.
