The Friends of the Crown Point Library are excited to announce three travel opportunities for 2027 through Collette Tours. These professionally guided tours offer travelers the opportunity to experience unforgettable destinations while supporting the Crown Point Community Library.
To introduce these exciting adventures, the Friends invite the community to attend a special Travel Presentation on Wednesday, August 12 at 6 p.m. at the Crown Point Community Library.
Representatives from Collette Tours will provide an overview of each tour, discuss itineraries, accommodations, pricing, and available early booking discounts. The Friends are also partnering with All About Vacations, a local travel agency, to help promote the tours and assist travelers with questions and reservations.

Visitors to the Crown Point Community Library can explore two fascinating exhibits that highlight the history, determination, and lasting impact of the women’s suffrage movement. Both exhibits are on display through the end of July during regular library hours.
“A Right Worth Fighting For: The History of the League of Women Voters of the Calumet Area”
Located in the library’s display cases in the main lobby, this exhibit, presented by the League of Women Voters of the Calumet Area (LWVCA), tells the story of more than a century of civic engagement.
Through historical documents, photographs, clothing, and artifacts, the exhibit traces the founding of the local Leagues of Women Voters in the Calumet area, which eventually merged to become today’s LWVCA. Visitors will learn about the long struggle that led to women gaining the right to vote in 1920 and discover how the League has continued its mission of educating voters, encouraging civic participation, and protecting the right to vote for all citizens.
The exhibit serves as a powerful reminder that while the fight for women’s suffrage culminated with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, the work of strengthening democracy continues today.
“Securing the Vote: Women’s Suffrage in Indiana”
Also on display through July is Securing the Vote: Women’s Suffrage in Indiana, a traveling exhibit from the Indiana Historical Society located in the library’s gallery hallway.
This compelling exhibit explores the history of Indiana’s suffrage movement, beginning with the state’s first Indiana Woman’s Rights Convention held in Dublin in 1851 and continuing through the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.
Visitors will discover how Hoosier women spent more than 70 years organizing meetings, leading campaigns, and advocating tirelessly for equal voting rights. Despite numerous setbacks and defeats, they remained steadfast in their pursuit of full citizenship and the power to shape their communities through the ballot box.
Securing the Vote: Women’s Suffrage in Indiana is a project of the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial, catalyzed by Indiana Humanities, the Indianapolis Propylaeum, the Indiana Historical Society, and the Indiana Historical Bureau, with support from Lilly Endowment Inc.
Both exhibits are free to view and will remain on display at the Crown Point Community Library through July 31 during regular library hours.

In 2025, generous donors who rolled up their sleeves at library blood drives helped collect 507 units of blood, making a meaningful impact on patients in need throughout our region. Every donation has the potential to save multiple lives, and this achievement reflects the incredible generosity of our community.
We are grateful to every blood donor, volunteer, and American Red Cross staff member who has helped make our blood drives successful. Your willingness to give one hour of your time can provide hope to accident victims, surgery patients, cancer patients, and others facing life-threatening medical conditions.

Our next American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Thursday, July 9, and appointment times are filling quickly.

Whether you’re a first-time donor or a regular participant, your donation can make a real difference. Summer is often a challenging time for maintaining an adequate blood supply, making every appointment especially important.

The Friends of the Crown Point Library’s mission is to enhance and promote the use and enjoyment of the library. They raise funds to support library programs and services, as well as to help fund items not generally covered in the library’s regular operating budget.
Become a member:
Membership is open to all individuals and families who want involvement in the library. Members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and to actively participate in book sales, other events, and projects. The membership year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. All dues are paid annually.
The membership dues are as follows:

Family – $15;

What we do:
As a Friend, you will play a critical role in your library’s and community’s success.
ADVOCATE – Friends are a voice for the Library on relevant, local, state, and national issues.
ENGAGE – Friends spread the word within the community, stimulating greater awareness of the Library and its resources.
SUPPORT – Friends volunteer at fundraising events and library events as needed.
FUNDRAISE – Friends fundraising activities, such as Bunco for Books, literary luncheons, bus trips,and book sales generate revenue to fund items not generally covered in the Library’s budget, and to sponsor programs such as the summer and winter reading events, author talks, concerts, library book discussion groups, Book Baby Bags, and a variety of literacy outreach services.
Meetings:
Curious to see what the Friends of the Library are doing? Attend a meeting! Meetings are held quarterly on the second Tuesday of the month, alternating times at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the meeting rooms at the Crown Point location.
2025 Meeting Dates:
February 11 at 10 a.m., May 13 at 6 p.m., September 9 at 6 p.m., December 9 at 10 a.m.
Residents of Center Township and Winfield Township are eligible for a free Crown Point Community Library card.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Adults (18 and older):
Bring a valid photo ID and proof of your current address.
Photo ID options: State-issued ID with current address, Passport, Military ID, Official School ID, or Matricula Consular
Proof of address: Rental agreement, utility bill, or checkbook showing your local address
Minors (17 and younger):
A parent or guardian must sign the application.
TEACHER CARDS
Teachers working in schools within the Crown Point Community Library service area apply for a Teacher Library Card. Please provide proof of current employment, such as a recent pay stub or an official school ID.
RECIPROCAL BORROWERS
The Crown Point Community Library card is honored at all Indiana libraries that participate in reciprocal borrowing, including many in Northwest Indiana.
You must be in good standing with our library before other libraries will issue you a reciprocal card.
Residents of the Lake County Public Library District can obtain a CPCL card with proper identification.
Patrons from other library districts may receive a CPCL card after completing an application and confirming their home library account is in good standing.
Note: Reciprocal borrowers have the same borrowing privileges as CPCL patrons, except for access to eBooks and downloadable audiobooks.
