Friends Fundraising Event
Daisy’s Girls
Camping with Juliette Gordon Low
adapted and performed by Betsey Means
The Friends of the Crown Point Library present Juliet Gordon Low (as performed by Betsey Means, artistic director of WomanLore) on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the Crown Point Library.
Juliette Gordon Low was the founder of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. A wealthy socialite of the United States and Great Britain, Juliette spent most of her life enjoying the recreations of the privileged classes. After meeting the founder of the Boy Scouts, Sir Robert Baden Powell, she discovered a social cause to which she would devote the rest of her life. An enthusiastic organizer and fundraiser, she led the formation of the Girl Scouts of the USA in 1912.
The Girl Scouts’ birthday, March 12, commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 members in Savannah, Georgia. Free GS Week fun patches will be distributed as supplies last.
WomanLore offers one-woman performances adapted directly from journals, autobiographies, and personal writings. Audiences enjoy a complete theatrical experience, authentically costumed and accurately evoking a bygone era. Betsey Means is a professional actress who has performed with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare on the Green, Blue Rider Theatre, and Chicago Children’s Theatre, among other groups
