Banned Books Week

Posted on

Banned Books Week (September 18 – 24, 2022) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. It spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.

Books unite us. Books encourage boundless exploration and allow readers to spread their wings.
Stories give flight to new ideas and perspectives.
Reading-especially books that set us free-expands our worldview.

Censorship, on the other hand, locks away our freedom and divides us from humanity in our own cages.

This designated week brings together the entire book community-librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types-in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The Crown Point Community Library celebrates Banned Books Week and its director, Julie Wendorf, is a strong advocate for the community and the freedom to read. Check out the top 10 banned books.
