Free Mental Health Trainings Offered by Geminus

Posted by lclemons on

The Geminus Corporation will offer two free mental health-related training courses at the Crown Point location in September. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Mental Health First Aid
September 9 from 9-3 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. This course is intended for adult participants.

Please include an email address for pre-course work. A certificate will be emailed after the course once the post-course online quiz and evaluation have been completed.
Register here.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training
September 17 from 10 -12 p.m.

QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is a 2-hour educational program designed to teach lay and professional “gatekeepers” the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.

1,000 Books before Kindergarten

Posted by lclemons on

How easy is it to read 1,000 books before kindergarten? Here are a few ways:

  • One bedtime story a night for three years,
  • Ten books a week for two years,
  • 20 books for a week for one year!

The key is perseverance. Make it exciting. The library can help you! Simply sign up for our free program “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten”.  We provide you with resources, reading lists, reading logs, and more. Children ages 0-5 are invited to sign up for this program at any time. Read more here: https://crownpointlibrary.org/1000-books-before-kindergarten/

Congratulations to sisters Charlotte and Fiona! On August 9, they both completed the “1,000 Books before Kindergarten” program – just in time for school to start.
